Resolutions You’ll Actually Stick with in the New Year

Excitement and enthusiasm of New Year set a perfect stage for making resolutions and improve upon certain things in life. However, soon we find reasons a.k.a excuses of fleeing from the shackles of resolutions. So why don’t we set such resolutions which are more doable and practical? If one wants to adhere to a resolution, one should keep in mind to choose resolutions such that they easily blend in one’s existing lifestyle because drastic changes in lifestyle are mostly short-lived.

Set small goals for every day.

We all have a to-do list, but most of us fail miserably to accomplish that. Instead of making a plan for a week or a month just assign short goals for every day. Don’t line up a long list of daily tasks, just keep two to three goals and try to complete them religiously. Prioritizing your goals is very important, and at the end of the month, you will find that you have achieved many things.

Start budgeting right

If the end of the month is always difficult for you, then budgeting should be your New Year resolution. Planning will help you not only in cutting unnecessary expenses but also it equips you for emergencies. Moreover, saving should not be done from the leftover money after all expenditures. Rather, separate some’ amount from your salary as savings and then leftover money should be used for all the expenses. Moreover, start writing down expenses to keep track of the money.

Get up early

I know how hard it is to fight with your comforting bed every morning, but if one makes this habit one is bound to be successful. Numerous examples are there to support the same. Rising early strengthens your willpower and gives your routine a kick start. One can utilize the quiet morning hours to meditate or to read. The efficiency is at peak your mind and body are both fresh, so get up and capitalize on your morning.

Be more grateful

This resolution will change your perspective once you imbibe this in your life. Every day takes some time out to count your blessings which we all have taken for granted and say that magic word “Thank You” to yourself, to all those people around you and the universe. This one small change will help you in becoming a happier soul and will make you emotionally strong. This one quality has the capacity to improve all the dimensions of your life.

Organize everything

Since childhood, our parents have nagged us for keeping our rooms clean. Studies have indicated that those people surrounding with clutter tend to be insufficient and distracted. Messier surroundings are also linked with stress and low immunity. Hence this year we will consciously clean and organize our desk by sorting all the papers and files and allocating each and everything a proper place. We resolve to keep the essential items like pens, notepads accessible and not scattered. One can add color to their desk by keeping photo frames, artificial desk plants, or fashionable coffee mugs. One can decorate their workspace with artificial palm trees or artificial cactus as it lends a clean and organized look.

Amalgamate exercise in your routine

Everybody knows the importance of exercise. What good exercise does to the body is no secret. However, we all have certain excuses for not doing exercise and lack of time is common to many. However, who says you have to take time to exercise separately one can integrate into his daily routine very easily. For example, taking the staircase instead of the elevator, doing regular stretches to relax, standing up at regular intervals, doing work in standing position, chair squats and seated leg raises are one of my favorites. Such exercises are fun and don’t need separate time.

Cut negativity out

You tend to become like the people surrounding you. If you are around happy and positive people you will find yourself brimming with energy. However, negative people suck your energy and enthusiasm like vampires. So start maintaining a safe distance from such people but if you can’t cut these people out from your life start learning the ways of dealing with them. One should not get into an argument with such people and ignore the bad comments from them.

Make time for family

We tend to ignore our parents, our extended family when we are trying to get hold of our lives. But there is no denying the importance of family. So no matter how busy you are, you need to make time for your family. Organize dinners, family get-togethers where you share your family stories and bond with each other, go for picnics or movies.

Read everyday

"Knowing how to read and not reading is almost the same as not knowing how to read." So this New Year makes reading a habit. Read the newspaper, novels, blogs or simply anything. The kind of exposure one gets opened the horizons of the mind. It gives you different perspectives and helps in communicating better. The list goes on, but the most vital question is how to inculcate this habit start with small pieces and gradually increase your reading ability. Try to read the stuff you find interesting because if you do not enjoy what you are reading, you will not be able to adhere to your resolution of reading.

Revisit the reasons for your resolutions regularly

The next resolution is a practice done so that one can stick to rest of the resolutions. Going back to the reasons for your resolutions makes you realize why we took it. So revisiting them makes us motivated. One has to realize that resolutions are made with a thought to improve, something that one feels is not right in his life. Hence, it is not a punishment. Resolutions are made because we love ourselves and they can stay only if we associate with love and not compulsion.
