The owner of the Parkdale Plaza in St. Louis Park, MN, was looking to update and remodel the common area of the building with silk tropical plants and trees. One of the major objectives of the new design was to utilize large trees, which would create a more intimate atrium area while accentuating the already impressive volume of the commons. Commercial Silk Int'l was contracted for the office interior landscape design, manufacturing and installation for the project.
The project team began by identifying that the best way to define smaller, more private spaces. It was quickly decided that large specimen trees would accomplish this task while also providing an enchanting scale to the area. Live trees would not be feasible due to light level requirements, the size of the entrance for installation, the load bearing requirement, and the ability to source large enough trees. Artificial Great Banyan trees were chosen for all of these reasons, and for the nuanced camphor vines wrapping around the stem that added touches of sophistication and charm. Next, planter beds were filled with silk tropical plants to round out the theme.
The artificial Banyan trees were custom manufactured to a height and canopy size that created intimate spaces while also stimulating a healthy sense of scale. The trees were brought into the office common area in pieces and assembled on site by Commercial Silk Int’l installers. In addition, the corporate space was updated with building directory signage, provided by AlivePromo. This digital signage helped to highlight the impressive updated atmosphere complimented by the artificial Great Banyan trees.
